How to stop a metal deer stand from squeaking?

James S asked:
My metal platform rubs against the tree and when I stop on it squeaks. What is odor less and will stop the squeaking?
I believe it squeaks where the metal touches the tree. I use a rachet strap and tighted very tight, there is some sqeaking when I step from the seat to the platform. Just curious how to stop the squeaking.

Crisco?

Trim the bark and use vegetable oil. Tighten all screws.Wrapping the metal with tape may work as well. Are you sure its the tree or the seat or platform?

I’ve had lots of problems with squeaking metal. The best method that I’ve found is spraying some WD-40 on the squeaking parts.

You need to be a little more graphic in the description of your problem. Some thing like ” My platform rubs against the tree. It only squeaks when I stomp on it.” . As far as topping it from squeaking where it touches the tree that depends..we need a picture of your stand. It could be (if it’s a stationary type) simply not tight enough against the tree or the bark is really thick and the spikes (or blade which ever you have) squeak when you move around on it. Then you’ll need to forget about the squeak. In my mind there is no way to silence the tree..short of cutting the bark back..and in national forest or Missouri conservation land that’s a big no no. If not and you have the property owners ok then yea cut the bark back a little so the spikes seat properly and the frame doesn’t interfere with that. Just a note here..better safe than sorry..the spikes need to be the only part sticking into the tree. If the frame interferes spikes fully setting ..the tree may not be big enough If it’s a climber with a blade well..those can be a bit more tricky. Try a little graphite it’s black and has no smell.
Good Luck

Any bolts or screws on it? If so add plastic washers with the already metal ones. You can also teflon coat it and paint back over it. Same stuff used in pick up beds. Little expensive, but the stand will last for many many moons and want be as cold when you climb it bare handed. Use the rubbery type for extra grip.

wow, you must not have a home depot around or something not to know any other lubricants.
see canola oil
petroleum jelly
graphite
silicon grease
rem oil (very little odor)
US military surplus gun oil (no odor I can detect)
axle grease
heavy machine grease
motor oil
unscented soap,
unscented candle wax
put only enough to oil, don’t put loads of it on, then odor isn’t a big issue.

The bird may just be playing, or cleaning its plumage. I once knew a cockatiel who loved to drop pieces of wood down its back and catch them, so the love birds actions may have no really reason aside from alleviating boredom.
